Investigation ongoing after fatal crash

September 13, 2012 Category: Crime Scene Investigation

Striking a pedestrian can make an investigation far more complicated for police, and finding the causes for the collision becomes far more pressing when a fatality occurs. In such incidents, law enforcement can rely on crash diagramming and other reconstruction tools to assist in creating a clear, concise picture of the events leading up to the time of the crash.

Police are currently looking into the reasoning behind a crash that left a five-year-old dead. A driver lost control of her vehicle and drove up onto the sidewalk, running into a group of people. Several were injured and one was killed. At the time of the initial investigation, officers stated the driver seemed impaired. She has been charged with intoxication of a chemical substance, but accident reconstruction is ongoing to see if other factors could have contributed to the collision.

Using crash diagramming can help law enforcement officials rule out other elements in this case, such as excessive speed, vehicle failure or adverse road conditions. These are important actors in playing out a collision, as every detail can affect the way a car handles on the road.
